Why Carvoeiro in 3 Days?

Carvoeiro is a small fishing village in the Algarve with golden limestone cliffs, turquoise water and some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in Europe. It's quieter than Albufeira and more beautiful than almost anywhere else on the coast.

Day 1: Carvoeiro Village & Algar Seco

Arrive and explore Carvoeiro village — a small square with restaurants and shops above a tiny beach. Walk east along the clifftop path to Algar Seco, a natural rock formation of arches, caves and blowholes just 5 minutes from the village. Swim in the natural rock pools at sunset.

Day 2: Benagil Cave & Carvalho Beach

Book a kayak tour into Benagil cave — the most photographed sea cave in Portugal, with a domed ceiling open to the sky. Gruta de Benagil can only be reached by sea. Afterwards, drive to Praia do Carvalho, a completely hidden beach accessed through a narrow tunnel carved through the cliff. Only accessible at low tide — check the tide tables the night before.

Day 3: Lagos & Ponta da Piedade

Drive 25 minutes west to Lagos, the Algarve's most beautiful historic town. Walk the old town walls, visit the market and take a boat tour from Lagos marina to Ponta da Piedade — extraordinary golden rock stacks and sea caves just south of the town. Lunch on the beach at Meia Praia.

Praia de Carvoeiro (the main village beach, busy), Praia do Carvalho (hidden, tunnel access, low tide), Praia de Marinha (most beautiful cliff scenery), Vale Centeanes (5 min from village, far fewer crowds), Praia da Caneiros (quiet, good snorkelling).
