Entry to the Theresienwiese fairground is free — you only pay for beer and food once inside a tent, or for a reserved table. A litre (Maß) of beer runs from around €15 in 2026, only sold at the six official Munich breweries: Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Paulaner and Spaten.

Reserve a tent table months ahead if you want a guaranteed seat during peak weekends — walk-in seating is possible on weekdays before 3pm, but weekends fill fast. Traditional Bavarian dress (Tracht) is genuinely worn by most attendees, not just tourists.

Admission is completely free, presented by Sam Adams, with a 300-foot festival tent seating over 1,000 people plus dozens of outdoor food and beer stalls along the Ohio River. Beer runs roughly $8–10 a cup — a fraction of Munich's price, and there's no need to book a table months ahead.

The festival is famous for the World's Largest Chicken Dance, a genuinely massive synchronised dance that regularly draws thousands of participants. Combine it with a walk through Over-the-Rhine's restored 19th-century German quarter, one of the largest historic districts in the US.

Entry is free on the opening day, the first Thursday and the final day, and from R$12 (half-price) on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays otherwise — cheaper than most single beers. A 400ml beer runs from R$16 for the official Spaten pour, up to R$20+ for limited seasonal craft options.

The festival includes daily parades, folk dance troupes in full Trachten, and a purpose-built festival park that looks more Bavarian than Brazilian. Santa Catarina's mild spring climate in October makes it comfortable both day and night.

The signature event is Willkommen Platz, a free open-air street festival held 9–11 October 2026 at Carl Zehr Square and along King Street — live music, food stalls and beer gardens with no entry fee. It lines up with Canadian Thanksgiving, and the Oktoberfest Thanksgiving Day Parade on 12 October is one of the largest parades in Canada.

Beyond the free street festival, ticketed Festhallen (indoor tents) run through the festival's full three-week window with live oompah bands and dancing — typically CAD $10–25 depending on the venue and night.

The Brisbane German Club, running its celebration across the first four weekends of October 2026, made Australian beer history as the first venue in the country — and possibly the world — to have all six official Munich Oktoberfest breweries on tap simultaneously: Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Paulaner and Spaten, alongside roughly 100 bottled varieties.

Tickets run from AUD $25 online, which includes entry, access to the Club and Biergarten, and a commemorative half-litre stein with its first fill included — genuinely good value for a festival with authentic imported Munich beer.

The Fiesta Nacional de la Cerveza runs across two long weekends — 2–4 and 9–12 October 2026 — a national festival in its 60-plus-year history, held at the Bosque de los Pioneros. Entry ticket prices vary sharply by day and lineup (Argentina's inflation makes exact peso figures unreliable — expect roughly the equivalent of $15–50 USD depending on the night), with major Argentine rock acts headlining alongside folk dance and beer tastings.

Like Brisbane, this happens in Southern Hemisphere spring — expect crisp mountain mornings and warm afternoons. It's a genuinely unusual detour for anyone travelling through Córdoba province.
